The words mokytojas (teacher) and dėstytojas (lecturer) are made out of verbs mokyti (to teach) and dėstyti (to lecture). This is the way many profession words are made in Lithuanian:
auginti (to grow) - ti + tojas = augintojas (grower) (female: augintoja)
auklėti |
(to educate; to train) |
auklėtojas |
(educator) |
Of course, it's not just professions that can be made out of verbs. You can as well derive a noun that tells what action someone is doing:
klausyti |
(to listen) |
klausytojas |
(listener) |
