Stressing (1) Lithuanian has quite a complex stressing system, which for this reason is going to be taught later. Lithuanian doesn't have a permanent stress like French or Latvian. The stress can be anywhere in a word, in any syllable. You learned about syllables in previous lessons. Sometimes a word may change its meaning if you stress another syllable. For example, yra, if stressed on y, means 'it decays', but if stressed on ra, means 'it is'. Gėrimas, if stressed on gė, means a drink, but if stressed on ri, means the action of drinking. You may go to the next lesson or to the lesson index. |
