Hello everybody, im new to this forum. Im just starting to pick up lithuanian again and im looking forward to meeting all of you and learning such an ancient language.

Though, i found out some interesting history about my family that i was wondering maybe someone could help me with.

My Great-grandpa came over to America fairly soon before WW1, and I always knew he was an orphan who lived at a monastary of some sort in Lithuania taking care of horses. However, after talking with some relatives i found out that his father was a mercenary who died in the Boer war. Though im having a hard time believing that it could of been the Boer war, as that took place in South Africa. Perhaps anyone here may know more on the subject?
